For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. The Home is a space where young people can thrive. The people who choose to live in The Home come from a variety of circumstances. This past year alone we have housed young people coming out of hospital, a treatment center, a shelter, and a night on the street. We have had a resident with a newborn, residents who are defying addictions, and residents who are facing mental health challenges. Our residents come to us with one thing in common – they are desiring more stability in their lives. The Home – and the wonderful House Parents who create the nurturing family-style environment – provide that stability.
This year we want to highlight one of the residents who is thriving in The Home – Kesley. This spring Kesley worked tirelessly to upgrade his high-school courses at NEC (Native Education College). He has a dream of becoming a Trauma Counselor and his work these past few months has paid off in a big way! We are thrilled to celebrate his recent acceptance into NVIT (Nicola Valley Institute of Technology) to start a Bachelor’s of Social Work. Here are Kesley’s words about his experience in The Home “Inner Hope provided me with housing when I was in need. When I first came in, I was coming from a treatment center and willing to go to any length for myself to achieve my goals. It put me with people my age who I could connect with. I was able to socialize with people who were positive and doing something with their lives rather than just being surrounded by people who were partying all the time. Now I’m in a healthy mindset mentally and have support in becoming a young adult.“ |
