In early October, one of Inner Hope’s volunteers connected us with his friend, Paul Hsu, who is the headmaster of a small, local, private high-school called St. Regis.
As a young, developing school in Vancouver, St. Regis desires to not only serve students from wealthy families (who pay $50,000 a year in tuition) but to also provide full scholarships to students who are from lower income families and are falling through the cracks in East side public schools. One of St Regis’ greatest strengths is its high quality of education, with 100% of their students going on to college or university. When Mark, Inner Hope’s Boundless Coordinator, shared the opportunity with some of our youth and parents, they jumped at the opportunity. By the end of October, six Boundless participants had started attending the school. With a population of around 30 students and 7 teachers, St. Regis is uniquely positioned to take an individualized approach, help our youth get caught up in school and prepare them for post-secondary education. When interviewed about our newfound partnership, Paul said, “Inner Hope is capable of directing the right students to us. In the past, some of the scholarship students who were referred to us dropped out after a few weeks. Inner Hope is close to the youth and the parents. If issues come up, we know we can ask for help. We form a solid triangle: school, family and social support (Inner Hope). Out of all the organizations we have worked with, Inner Hope has the strongest connection with the families.” We recognize that this partnership is unique and look forward to the impact it will have in young lives. |
