PART OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD: REBECCA'S STORY
"I live just a few doors away from The House, and attended an open house they held shortly after they moved in. One of the Inner Hope kids was in the same class at school as one of my daughters, and I was drawn to the dynamic interactions I observed between the staff and the children and their parents. As I got more involved and met some of the youth and the Inner Hope staff and volunteers, I was really moved at the level of passion and innovation they bring to what they do: living life with youth and supporting entire families in all areas of life and health.
I became a member of the Inner Hope Board nearly 6 years ago. At the Board level, there have been many milestones—seeing the operating budget increase to over half a million dollars each year by generous donors, seeing a comprehensive strategic plan be developed and the goals pursued with joyful passion by staff, and seeing an incredible amount of policies and procedures take shape to provide structure and stability.
However, I think the most amazing milestones are the stories we hear of youth being agents of resilience and change in their families, moving on to adulthood, and thriving. My own daughters had the privilege to go to high school with an Inner Hope youth, and we've hosted her in our home on numerous occasions. She is an amazing young woman who is striving to live out a full-hearted life.
For the staff and volunteers, Inner Hope is more than a job—it is a heartfelt ministry. They go above and beyond the call of any job description, and enact love in creative and dynamic ways. COVID-19 has been extremely challenging for young people all around the world, and the innovation the Inner Hope staff team has shown in supporting youth while adhering to the health regulations has been worthy of a standing ovation. I highly recommend this organization for anyone who is thinking about volunteering as a mentor or on the Board. And for those wanting to invest their finances somewhere that will make a difference in the lives of inner-city youth, this is the place!"
