spring 2018 newsletter
One of my highlights of 2017 was developing a new 3 year strategic plan to guide Inner Hope through 2018-2020. Time was devoted to discernment, prayer, reflection and critical thinking. We are thankful for Gary Klassen who acted as consultant and guide throughout the process. The 10 step process included: gathering input from stakeholders (staff, board, youth, parents, donors, partners, social service workers) researching Vancouver’s social, economic and political climate, reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of each program as well as analyzing Inner Hope’s finances and developing budgets for 2018-2020. Fifty stakeholders (including many of you) participated in an interview or consultation group to provide valuable input and diverse perspectives. Last October, our strategic planning committee (Gary - consultant, Rebecca – board representative, Diana – Director of Programs and myself – Executive Director) met to compile all the data we had collected. Based on the feedback gleaned, Inner Hope’s greatest strengths are our holistic, faith-based, wrap around approach and the love, compassion and care we provide through long-term, committed relationships and a stable community presence. It was also apparent that a lack of supportive housing, a gap in services for young adults and low education / employment rates among the Indigenous population are three critical issues in Vancouver that Inner Hope is addressing. Inner Hope’s greatest weaknesses have been limited cash flow and maintaining staff health / guarding against burnout. As a result, Inner Hope’s board has endorsed our commitment to the following three strategies:
These three strategies are interconnected and impact one another. Increased finances will allow us to increase support for human resources and programs. Thriving staff and volunteer teams will impact program quality and lead to stories of impact that will help raise funds. Ultimately we seek to increase the quality of programs and services for the greatest impact on the lives of the youth and families we love so much. Please pray with us as we seek to honour Christ as we faithfully serve youth and families in East Vancouver. |
